View From the Mount: A Monthly Global Gathering

We warmly welcome your participation in the View from the Mount live broadcast, to be held on Sunday, July 6th at 6:00 PM PDT, that will explore the theme: “Breaking the Dark Cycle of Revenge”. 

It was Mahatma Gandhi who astutely observed that, “An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind.”  He exposed the concept of retributive justice to be morally bankrupt by highlighting that such a system of revenge ultimately leads to escalation and inevitable destruction, leaving no one unharmed. 

It appears that much of our world is presently caught up in this maelstrom, and if this dark cycle of revenge and belligerence cannot be ended, we may well be doomed to go round and round inside a closed loop of hatred until either the field collapses or we have a revelation and finally see the Light of Day and make the needed changes.

Whether it is road rage on a crowded California freeway or one nation state flexing its muscles and attacking a neighbor, revenge and retaliation may take on different forms, but at their core is contained the same toxicity.  As the Agni Yoga teaching points out, “The feeling of revenge is a powerful manifestation of the unscrupulousness of selfhood. He who knows the meaning of Karma can understand that a man takes revenge only on himself.”

We will explore the powerful and practical antidote to revenge that is contained in the three guiding spiritual Principles that are foundational to our work at Meditation Mount: namely, the Principles of Essential Divinity, Goodwill, and Unanimity. 

Breaking this cycle of violence at both a personal and planetary level requires our immediate attention and full engagement, as it truly is a matter of life and death.  Love, not hate, is the portal to a new and better world for all.

His background includes a 14-year residency as gardener and Director of Education at the Findhorn Community in Scotland; organic farming in Sweden; conducting seminars world-wide on the themes of ‘Transforming Self and Society from the Inside Out’ and ‘Cooperating with the Subtle Realms of Gaia’ plus working as a senior organization development consultant with The Boeing Company from 1989-2005 involved with large-scale systems change.

Author of ‘The Dance of Change: An Eco-Spiritual Approach to Transformation’ (Penguin Books 1986) with numerous articles featured in psychology, education and business journals.

Michael currently serves as Board President of Meditation Mount in Ojai, California and is a member of the Community of Living Ethics in Umbria, Italy.
